Divisibility Rule for 2

Divisibility Rule of 2: This rule is used to check whether a number is divisible by 2 or Not without performing long division. A number is divisible by 2, if its units digit is an even digit i.e. 0, 2,4, 6, or 8

Let n be any natural number.

Then, n = 10a + b, where b is unit digit of n.

Since 10a is an even number and we know that the sum of two even numbers is an even number and the sum of an even number and an odd number is an odd number. Therefore, n = 10a + b will be even is b is even and if b is odd then n is odd. Thus, the test of divisibility by 2 states that a number is divisible by 2 if for any number n when b is an even number , or we can say that b can be any even digit 0, 2 , 4, 6, 8,

IILUSTRATION 1: Let n be a natural number. If the division ndiv 2 leaves a remainder of 1, what might be the units digit of n?

Solution:  Since the division  ndiv 2 leaves a remainder of 1. So, n must be an odd natural number. Hence, its units digit can be 0,2,4,6 or 9.
